Born Aquarius 1978, “horse” in the Chinese horoscope. Pablo Sarasate, famous violinist from Baztán region, gave name to the Superior Conservatory of Navarra where I majored in classical saxophone. By then, Iñaki Askunze and Mikel Andueza  had already injected the poison of jazz. “Iruña Big Band” was the first group that I was part of in the 90′s; I was fortunate to learn alongside Javier Colina, Iñaki Salvador, Marc Miralta or Mario Fernandino.

Thanks to a grant from the “Príncipe de Viana Institution” and another one from Berklee College of Music, I moved to Boston from 2001 to 2003; there I met those who gave me the finish off (poisoned): Garzone, Tiberi, Bergonzi, Lovano, Hal Crook and Tomassi. I was awarded the “Woodwind Department Achirvement Award” in 2002/03, and graduated in “Jazz Performance” rated “Magna Cum Laude”, Dianne Reeves was the master of ceremonies.
Demian Cabaud, Leo Genovese, Esperanza Spaulding, Andre Matos, Gonçalo Marques, Jure Pukl or Walter Smith were some of my companions in this era.

In 2005 I established my current residence, Barcelona, and for some years teaching reconciles the Jazz Department of the Conservatory of Navarra.
It has been already 10 years in this city, where I had the opportunity to be part of groups that have made me grow musically and humanly, as MUT Trio (with Tito Juan and Oriol Roca, my guardian angels. Cheers for the free!) Santi Careta Group (with Domenech, Cuevas and Julianne Heinneman), Mystic Flugelhorn band (what a mystery band Dani Comas invented!), Two Tenors Quartet (Miguel “pintxo” Villar, Balcazar and Del Val), Nicolas Sanchez Quartet, Albert Marqués Quartet …

Miguel Fern†ndez Quartet_0218Though the history of the quartet it has been different musicians from its origins in 2007, when Rai Ferrer, Dani Perez and Gonzalo del Val started it, with Marko and David Xirgu Lohikari recording was culminated in 2009 “Transplanet Species” (best 2010 Jazz album twice rewarded: BBK Jazz Foundation and Jaç/Grupo Enderrock).
Since 2010 have been members of the group Albert Bover, Joan Monne, Jordi Matas or Albert Plana.
Currently I believe that I have the quarted in wich I always dreamed where I try to keep experimenting with new music with David Xirgu, Marco Mezquida and Massa Kamaguchi;
I always feel something special close to them where everything flows so easy, unpretentious.

For a while I missed coming back to the USA, specifically live music in New York, and in 2013 gave myself a trip to meet old friends and record “Afrikan Blues”. Music of my own hand thanks to Leo´s Genovese production, takes a divine rebirthing.
Legendary Joe Hunt at age 75, having toured with Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Chet Baker and Eric Dolphy on drums; Jason Palmer on trumpet, Chris Lightcap on bass and Leo, thanks again fox, on the piano. Published by Sax On, a place for saxophonist and wind instrumentalist in general (vintage and new instruments shop, accessories, repairing, restoring and fixing wind instruments) where I work with my partner Diego “Chono” González – “the delighter repairman” – and Luciano Ceraso- “the jazz library” -.
